Two weeks ago we had a little snowfall here. It started around 10 PM one evening and soon all was blanketed in a wet, white snow. In the glow of streetlights on a quiet evening it was wonderfully peaceful. I was tempted to wake the girls but was brought to my senses when reminded that they would inevitably be too excited to go back to sleep in a timely fashion. So I crossed my fingers that more snow would fall through the night and we'd have a snowday ahead of us. Unfortunately the temperatures began to rise during the night and even before the sun rose I could hear melting snow trickling down the gutters.
Funky B tromped to school in the slushy snow while MonkE pulled out all her completely unnecessary but greatly desired snow gear. We pointed out that the snow was all melting. Didn't matter to her.
She insisted that we make snowmen in the yard.
Together with Reba we rolled up all the snow to make a family of four.
They stood in the grass (because all the snow on the ground had now become their round little bodies) until lunchtime when slowly they too began to disappear under the blue sky.
By the time we went to pick up Funky B from school there was nothing left of the snowfamily four. At least that is what we thought. Today, while enjoying a balmy winter day in the yard, MonkE and I found their remains.
Scooped up the buttons and stored them away for another year. Left the carrot for the critters.
