They've flown the coop.
After almost two months of sharing my morning coffe with the Old Hen and her Rooster, I returned home from teaching today to a quiet, empty house. I'd wallow in a bit of loneliness except for the fact that their new nesting spot is a mere twenty minutes away!
Much of our weekend was spent unloading the PODS and unwrapping boxes to rediscover familiar belongings. It was fun to see the space take shape and begin to resemble "Grandma and Grandpa's house".
The girls claimed a room for themselves (it's that big!?!!!) and exploded with delight to find a whole doll collection that will live there, ready and waiting for their visits. I asked them what they liked best about the new house and the old house. Both stated that they love having their own room at the new house. Funky B said that she liked being able to sleep in the attic at 227. MonkE melted my heart by responding that the best thing at the old house was Aunt Bird.
Can we all just say it together now? Aaaahhhhhh :-)
Me? There's still a bunch of things that I miss about that old house. I think that it will always tug at my heart. But being able to call up my Mom and see if she wants to get lunch on a Wednesday afternoon or head out for a Saturday morning hike with my Dad is something I have not be able to do in almost twenty years. And that far exceeds anything I might miss about a beautiful old American foursquare. The absolute best parts of that old house are now here.
